John G Lake was born in Ontario in 1870. He became a Methodist minister in Wisconsin in 1891 and began practicing healing after his wife was miraculously healed of the consumption that should have killed her. In 1907, Lake closed his bank account, gave all his money and real estate away, and began an independent evangelistic work by preaching Christ, healing the sick, and baptizing new believers. His ministry took him all over America, lead him to establish a mission in South Africa, and revolutionized Spokane, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, as thousands were cured in his healing rooms. Having served his Lord so long and hard, leaving an indelible mark upon the believing and unbelieving world alike, Lake died of a stroke in 1935.
